Principles of Instruction

Principles

Tom Sherrington (author of Teach Now! Science) has described Barak Rosenshine’s seminal ‘Principles of Instruction’ as ‘THE must-read for all teachers’. It is a clear and comprehensive guide to evidence-informed teaching which resonates for teachers of all subjects since it focuses on aspects of teaching that are universal such as questioning, practice and building knowledge. The document is available in full as a pdf here.

This excellent blog by Mark Enser documents putting Rosenshine’s principles into practice – in this case, his subject is Geography. An eye-catching poster by Oliver Caviglioli reorganises the principles into four themes and is available here.
